Providence Health & Services Clinical Secretary - Pharmaceutical Care Clinic in Centralia, Washington


Providence is calling a Clinical Secretary (0.8 FTE, Day Shift) to the Providence Centralia Hospital Pharmaceutical Care Clinic in Centralia, WA.

This is a part time (0.8 FTE; 32 hours per week) and benefits eligible position.

We are seeking a Clinical Secretary to join our team at the Pharmaceutical Care Clinic. This clinic has specialized ambulatory clinical pharmacist providers who monitor patients in a traditional clinic setting for conditions requiring intensive therapy management. They would be responsible for obtaining accurate intake information from patients, scheduling patient treatment appointments, providing patient clinic check-in support and perform other essential clinic functions in collaboration with our clinical pharmacist providers. They must interact with patients, families and staff in a manner that portrays a positive image for the clinic.

In this position you will:

  • Attend to the front desk window, which is utilized both by patients and hospital visitors.

  • Check patients in for their clinic appointments

  • Evaluates and maintains clinic referrals including annual renewals.

  • Ask appropriate questions of referring physicians’ offices, accurately documents diagnosis, and obtains all necessary information.

  • Requests essential medical records for evaluation.

  • Screen referrals appropriately for indication and diagnostic coding then performs scheduling for clinic appointments based on acuity.

  • Schedules language interpreters for patients when needed.

  • Performs phone calls and/or letter correspondence to patients for scheduling appointments and those who have missed appointments.

  • Answer the phone and direct calls appropriately.

  • Assess customers’ level of understanding and adjusts interaction appropriately.

  • Facilitates office essential functions including ordering supplies, maintaining space/license compliance

  • Performs accurate and concise documentation in the electronic health record.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Exceptional customer service skills

  • Ability to read, write and verbally communicate in English

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Accurate typing/keyboarding skills

  • Previous secretarial experience

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Medical terminology
