The Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech) will assist with the delivery of patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The primary responsibility will be focused on performing technical, therapeutic, and administrative tasks & procedures for which they have been trained. The ED Tech must demonstrate the ability & willingness to participate in a Patient Care Team as a multi-skilled caregiver responsible for quality of his/her own work and remain flexible in response to changes. Must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment, have strong problem solving skills, and possess the ability to act quickly in emergency situations.
In this position you will:
Assist Emergency Department staff in providing care as defined below:
Correctly prepares patient for evaluation
Maintain a safe, therapeutic and aesthetic work environment. Detail oriented
Place necessary equipment/supplies at bedside for procedures
Anticipate patient, family, and staff needs and responds appropriately in emergency situations
Use AIDET when interacting with patients, families and visitors
Consistently demonstrates compassion and concern for patients, families, and colleagues
Answer with: department, name, and “How may I help you?”
Chart as appropriate:
Document according to set Emergency Department policies and procedures
Enter critical patient data quickly and accurately
Print Emergency Department Records as requested
Promote positive departmental working conditions and image:
Treat co-workers and visitors courteously
Assist visitors promptly and courteously
Round on patients hourly to ensure that patient/families are kept informed
Accept constructive criticism in a positive manner
Is willing to be flexible in availability for work schedule changes
Know safety requirements and effectively utilizes precautionary measures:
Identify patient safety and environmental hazards and takes appropriate action
Demonstrate knowledge of hospital emergency procedures and codes
Observe all infection control safety policies and procedures
Perform other related duties as assigned:
Follow guidelines established at time of assignment
Accept assignments willingly
Perform technical, therapeutic, and administrative tasks & procedures for which he/she has been trained. Regular duties are as follows:
Stocking – maintaining ample supplies at all times
Transportation of patients
Room turn over
Phlebotomy with knowledge of specimen handling practices
Desk relief for Health Unit Coordinator (HUC)
Prioritize workload to ensure timely completion of assignment
Ask appropriate clarifying questions relative to the scope of assignment
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Washington State Nursing Assistant Certified (NAC) upon hire
Certification as a Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist within 90 days of hire
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) upon hire
Preferred qualifications for this position includes:
Two (2) years recent experience in a hospital or pre-hospital environment
One (1) year recent Emergency Department experience
