The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for cleaning, maintaining and sterilizing of instruments, processing case carts and sterile storage of items in sterile processing.
The job duties listed are essential functions of the position. However, other duties may be assigned, and may also be considered essential functions of the position.
The caregiver must be sufficiently fluent in the English language to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. The degree of fluency required will vary depending upon the nature of the position.

For direct patient care roles: Performs and maintains currency
In this position you will:
o Manages par level inventories of supplies for the OR.
o Maintains overall cleanliness and organization of unit storage areas.
o Make changes to sets as needed or recommended.
o Reports and documents unserviceable/broken equipment to Sterile Processing Coordinator.
o Knowledge of sterilization.
o Knowledge of surgical instruments and supplies.
o Knowledge of instrument processing and decontamination.
o Knowledge of regulatory government agencies for standards and recommendation of sterile processing and decontamination.
o Processes supplies and equipment.
o Practices sterile technique according to department policy.
o Prepares and processes supplies and equipment according to departmental procedure.
o Follows established SPD procedures.
o Processes trays ensuring that the finished product is wrapped neatly and tightly.
o Labels and records instrument trays and equipment in accordance to established procedure.
o Operates steam & Sterrad Sterilizers in accordance with guidelines.
o Tests, monitors and records Sterrad and steam sterilizers, and understands their functions.
o Communicates and receives approval for any tray and procedure changes from Clinical Manager prior to implementing.
o Cleans and decontaminates equipment. Standards:
o Follows department and hospital procedures regarding decontamination attire.
o Cleans instruments and equipment in accordance with decontamination procedures.
o Follows proper procedure when using instrument washer. Practices proper Infection Control and Universal Precautions when handling equipment and supplies.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Education: H.S. Diploma or GED
Coursework/Training Graduate of approved Central Service Technician program.
